While many Vaishnava groups recognize him as an avatar of Vishnu, other traditions within Krishnaism consider Krishna to be svayam bhagavan, or the supreme being. Krishna is often depicted as an infant, as a young boy playing a flute as in the Bhagavata Purana or as a youthful prince giving direction and guidance as in the Bhagavad Gita. The stories of Krishna appear across a broad spectrum of Hindu philosophical and theological traditions. They portray him in various roles: a god-child, a prankster, a model lover, a divine hero and the Supreme Being. The principal scriptures discussing Krishna's legends are the Mahabharata, the Harivamsa, the Bhagavata Purana and the Vishnu Purana. | | | Features: | |

Stone Statue of Lord HanumanNov 14, 2007

"Shalin Enthusiast"
I have physically seen stone statues sold by ShalinCraft. These are made in a very unique kind of stone found in the state of Orissa in eastern India. These stones are harder than soap-stones, on which most carvings are made, but softer than granite stone. Orissa along with Khajuraho is known for temple sculptures that were created in 10th and 11th centuries. Stone statues sold by ShalinCraft seem to be inspired by those temple sculptures. Rajendra Misra, a young sculptor living in the town of Puri in Orissa, has created most of ShalinCraft statues. This sculptor was also awarded Medal by the President of India for his outstanding creations of sculptures.
